A meeting of about 50 men was held in Lawrence 1 yesterday afternoon, at which the Speakers' Club was organized. The objects of the club are the promotion of public speaking and the providing of additional opportunities for practice in the University.

Professor I. L. Winter '86 described the purpose of the club and emphasized the importance of its being made a permanent organization. He proposed that topics of local interest be discussed; that a certain part of the work of the meetings be prepared previously; that the meetings be made public occasionally; and that a critic be present and give advice to the individual speakers. Professor G. P. Baker '87 suggested that public meetings should be held as often as possible.

A committee consisting of J. C. Bills '09, A. S. Ford sC., J. V. Martin sC., F. F. A. Pearson '11 and R. H. Smith '10, with Professor Winter as adviser, was appointed to consider the various suggestions made and to call the next meeting of the club.
