It was reported that at the crew dinner when "Harvard Every Day" was sung there was a general shout of approval by the graduates present which proclaimed the song an immediate success. This success was further attested last night when the song was sung at the mass meeting under the direction of the composer and was called for time after time. It took but a few minutes to learn it as it had few difficulties to present and the spirit and rhythm of the lines were highly contagious. It was a wise move on the part of the Song Committee to make use of this song even at this late date in the season, as it has qualities which entitle it to a high place among Harvard songs. It will stand the test of time.
The new song was by no means the only feature of last night's mass meeting. It was one of the biggest gatherings in the Union on record and there were scores of men who could not even get close enough to the doorways to see the platform. Everyone seemed charged not only with the ordinary enthusiasm of the last week of the season, but in addition with several pounds left over from Saturday's victory. It must have been gratifying to Captain Burr and his team to feel that such unstinted loyalty was being bestowed upon them. Another chance, and a better one, will be given to show this spirit to the team at the open practice today. It was only at some concession that the coaches consented to open the gates today as every minute is valuable from now on. But there are other benefits to be derived from the presence of the undergraduates at the field and accordingly the practice will be open after four o'clock.
