A meeting of the candidates for the University cross-country team was held last evening in the Assembly Room of the Union, 55 men handing in their names. W. M. Rand '09, captain of the track team, outlined the work of the cross-country team in past years. Two meets out of four have been won from Technology, while the first annual meet with Yale, held last year at New Haven, resulted in a victory for Yale. The team this year has the advantage of having an excellent coach in Mr. Schrubb, who is the champion ten-miler of the United States.

Coach Schrubb emphasized the importance of hard training in the beginning. A man who trains four days a week from the very first is in far better condition for a race than the man who trains two days a week at the start, and every day the final week. Steady work and strict training are what bring success in the end.

J. D. Leland '09, manager of the track team, announced that a new course would be chosen this year in the neighborhood of Chestnut Hill. Cross-country work will start today, and the men will be divided into two squads. The meet with the Institute of Technology will take place on November 6, the Yale meet on November 13, and the intercollegiate meet at Princeton November 21.
