GAME WON FROM McGILL

University Hockey Team Defeated Canadians in Fast Game, 8 to 2.

The University hockey team defeated McGill University of Montreal in the Stadium, on Saturday, by the score of 8 to 2,--the same score by which the University team lost to McGill last year. The ice was in perfect condition, and the work of the University team was characterized by fast and accurate playing, the following back of the forwards especially surpassing that shown heretofore. The Canadians played an aggressive game, but their showing was not equal to that of last year's team, and at no time throughout the game was Harvard in danger of being defeated.

Penalties were inflicted on both teams for forward passing and off-side playing; but the Harvard forwards soon got down the ice together, and Pell shot the first goal on a good pass from Rumsey. The playing then became rougher, and the McGill forwards resorted to erratic tactics, unavailing because of consistent covering of their men by the Harvard team. Rumsey' was then put off the ice for roughness. Hicks at last got the puck, and all four of the Harvard forwards rushed it down the ice together, Pell scoring an easy goal.

Several attempts were then made by the McGill team to get through the Harvard defense, but Ford repeatedly received the puck and carried it down the rink. Newhall was then replaced by Gardner. A mix-up ensued between Rumsey and Raphael, which resulted in both players being ruled off. Pedley was put in place of Gobier, and scored the first goal for McGill within a minute after entering the rink.

The first score in the second half was made by Rumsey. The fourth goal was made by Pell, the puck bounding into the net after hitting the goal-post. Soon after, Raphael scored against his own team in trying to get out from in front of his goal, and within a minute Pell shot the sixth goal.

The playing became very fierce around the Harvard goal and Ford was twice sent to the side lines for roughness, the first time accompanied by Raphael. Willetts made several exceptionally good plays, and repeatedly broke up the McGill rushes. Raphael scored the second goal for McGill on a clean shot. The next score for Harvard was made by Rumsey on a pass from Pell.

The goal necessary to even up last year's defeat was made by Hicks, who took the puck from Roberts and shot it into the net.
