In the first game of the interclass hockey series, held yesterday afternoon on the Stadium rink, the Sophomores defeated the Freshmen by the score of 1 to 0. Aggressiveness made up for the ragged play of both sides, and the game was close and exciting. Neither team had a distinct advantage in the first half, although the Freshmen forwards showed the better team work. Claflin shot the only goal of the game in the middle of this half.

In the second half the Freshmen forwards improved their team play considerably, and only the good work of the Sophomore defense prevented them from scoring. Tyer, at goal for the Sophomores, made several difficult stops.

The summary: 1907.  1908. Claflin, l.e.  r.e., Newhall Nichols, von Stade, l.c.  r.c., Lovering Edgell, r.c.  l.c., Mackay Eaton, r.e.  l.e., Gilbert Lanahan, c.p.  c.p., Harding Starr, p.  p., Burton Tyer, g.  g., Carpenter

Score--1907, 1; 1908, 0. Goal--Claflin 1. Referee--H. L. Warren '06. Time-keeper--B. H. Draper '07. Time--15-and 10-minute halves.

The Seniors will play the Juniors in the second game of the interclass hockey series on the first rink in the Stadium this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Both teams have been practicing regularly since the Christmas recess, but as several members of the University second team are playing for the Seniors, the chances favor 1905.

The line-up will be: 1905.  1906. Prentice, l.e.  r.e., Farrelly Greenough, l.c.  r.c., Moore H. C. Egan, r.c.  l.c., Tilney Whidden, r.e.  l.e., Baker, Holland Aertsen, c.p.  c.p., Nesmith, Harrington Colby, p.  p., Vidaud, Shurtleff Hinckley, g.  g., Warren
