Of the Harvard men engaged in golf during the summer, H. H. Wilder '09 and E. W. Clark '07 have been the most prominent. On July 20 Wilder won the gold medal for the 36 hole qualifying round in the Essex County Club tournament with a total of 157. By defeating G. F. Willet of the Essex County Club in the final round of the Club's open tournament Wilder also gained permanent possession of the Essex Cup. In another tournament held at the same place in the latter part of August he was beaten in the second round, but H. McCall '09 qualified for the semi-finals.
In the tournament held last week at the Woodland Golf Club, Wilder, by brilliant playing, won the first division cup, defeating J. B. Hylan in the final round 2 up. A. W. Ingalls '09 was the runner up for the second division cup, but was defeated in the final round by M. Stanton, 6 up and 4 to play.
On August 4 E. W. Clark won the Vermont golf championship by defeating M. K. Waters on the 18 holes of the Ekwanok links at Manchester. At the same links on August 18 Clark won the Governor's Cup from C. W. Taintor of Richmond County 4 up and 3 to play.
