The boat race yesterday afternoon between three four-oared crews made up of men on the University squad was easily won by the crew stroked by G. G. Bacon '08. A second race between three four-oared Freshman crews was won by Maxwell's crew.
The Freshman crews raced over a half-mile course, upstream, from midway between the Harvard and Longwood bridges to Longwood bridge. The crew stroked by Meyer caught the water first and took the lead, but Maxwell forced his crew to take the lead with a higher stroke, until at the finish, it was three lengths ahead. The time was 3 minutes and 8 seconds.
The University crews rowed over a 1 1-2 mile course upstream from above the Union Boat Club to Longwood bridge. On the first start Mulligan, number 2 in the crew stroked by Wentworth, broke his oar. On the second start Lovering, number 3 in the same boat, broke his oar, but the other two crews continued over the course. Morgan's shell started at a very high stroke and led for a short distance, but at the end of the first quarter-mile Bacon had placed his crew a length in the lead, which was increased to four lengths at the finish. The time was 8 minutes and 26 seconds.
The orders of the crews as they finished were as follows:
Freshman four-oars:
First--Stroke, Maxwell; 3, Hadden; 2, Vogel; bow, H. Morgan; cox., Prince.
Second--Stroke, Meyer; 3, McLeod; 2, Loring; bow, Forster; cox., Warren.
Third--Stroke, Davis; 3, Beard; 2, Henderson; bow, Parsons; cox., Adams.

Second--Stroke, Morgan; 3, Macdonald; 2, Fahnestock; bow, Burchard; cox., Warren.
