CHANGES IN CREWS

Numerous Shifts Made in Orders of University and Second Boats.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In accordance with plans made before the Columbia race, quite a shake-up occurred yesterday afternoon in the University crew. Farley went into the boat at stroke, replacing Tappan, who with Fish, will be given a rest for a few days. Richardson was moved from 6 to 7, occupying the place of Amberg, who was put into the second boat at 7, where Morgan had previously been rowing. This shift of Amberg is in no wise due to his work in the race on Saturday, which was entirely satisfactory. The change was made in accordance with the advice of T. N. Manahan M.'98, the medical supervisor of the crew. It was deemed unwise to use Amberg in a four-mile race, such as the one against Yale, although he will be a valuable man on the University second eight in the American Henley Regatta at Philadelphia on May 25, or in the four-oar against Yale, as both of the latter races are shorter. Severance went into the boat in Richardson's scat at 5, and Lunt was given a trial in Fish's place at 2.

The changes in the University boat necessitated a re-arrangement of the second. G. Bacon was shifted to stroke from 2; and Mulligan, Fahnestock, and Macdonald from the four-oar replaced Lovering, Lunt and Bacon at 6, 4, and 2, respectively. Lovering was given a rest. No four-oared crew went, out, but Morgan and Cutler rowed in single sculls.

Both eights, coached by Wray from his single, rowed upstream for about 1 and 3-4 miles and back to the University boathouse in several easy stretches. Both boats went poorly, as was to be expected from so many changes. The University crew especially had difficulty in maintaining an even keel.

The orders:

University eight--Stroke, Farley; 7, Richardson; 6, Glass; 5, Severance; 4, R. Bacon; 3, Faulkner; 2, Lunt; bow, Burchard; cox., Blagden.

Second eight--Stroke, G. Bacon; 7, Amberg; 6, Mulligan; 5, Hanfstaengl; 4, Fahnestock; 3, Swaim; 2, Macdonald; bow, Wiggins; cox., Arnold.
