The University baseball team will play its first game of the season with the University of Vermont this afternoon on the Freshman diamond, Soldiers Field, at 3.30 o'clock. As neither team has yet played a game this season it is impossible to from an accurate comparison of the nines. Vermont, however has a better team than in several years.

The batting order of the teams will be: HARVARD  VERMONT Leonard, 3b  c., Woodward Mahar, l.f.  s.s., Williams Randall, lb  l.f., Campbell Matthews, s.s.  p., Roulbath Kernan, c.f.  r.f., Peck McCarly, e.f.  2b., Collinson Kemble, 2b.  lb., Wiggin Tweed (Stephenson), c.  c.f., Ward

Because of the cold weather yesterday's practice was light. The work in fielding was rather ragged, frequent errors being made. The batting, however, was fairly satisfactory.

The regular diamond on Solders Field will probably not be used until after the southern trip, owing to the softness of the ground.
