In the annual interclass track games in the Stadium yesterday afternoon the Juniors won the class championship with a total of 44 points. The Freshmen secured 28 points, the Seniors 23, and the Sophomores 22. All undergraduates who won points will be awarded their class numerals, and those who secured first or second places will receive prizes.
The track, which froze Thursday night, was rather soft yesterday, and although there was practically no wind, the weather was too cold for good times in most of the events. The best time under the existing conditions was made in the 220-yard dash by L. P. Dodge '08, who did the distance by L. P. Dodge '08, who did the distance in 22 3-5s. W. M. Rand '09 showed his usual form in the hurdles, and won both events in good style.
The most closely contested races were the mile run and the 440-yard run. H. F. Hadden, Jr., '09 with a splendid spurt passed Minot and Miller in the mile and finished strongly about 4 yards ahead of the former. In the quarter-mile the Freshmen won all three places.
In the two-mile run J. M. Groves sC. led most of the way, but on the last lap M. S. Crosby '08 spurted and won in slow time. Groves finished third; but, as he is a graduate student, H. W. King '08, who finished fourth, secured the point for third place. M. B. Van Brunt '08 ran well in the half-mile and beat H. Watson '10 by five yards.
Of the field events the high jump and shot-put were the most encouraging. B. T. Stephenson, Jr., '08 won the shot-put with a good put of 44 feet. Stephenson also won the broad jump with a jump of 21 feet 4 inches. The high jump was a tie between R. G. Harwood '09, G. E. Roosevelt '09, and R. E. Somers '08, at 5 feet 9 inches; in the jump-off for first prize Harwood won first place with a splendid jump of 5 feet 10 1-4 inches, which is better than either of last year's records in the handicap or class games. Roosevelt won the toss-up for second place.
