A small fire started in the Observatory, on Garden street, yesterday afternoon, about 6 o'clock. The fire began in the residence part of the Observatory, and catching on the woodwork, spread rapidly. Before the fire department arrived, however, it had been parctically smothered by fire-extinguishers. None of the valuable instruments of the Observatory were injured, nor was the damage extensive. The loss has been estimated at not more than $200.
