The following question has been chosen, with the approval, of the French Department, for the Pasteur Medal debate on May 3: "Resolved, That the French government should substitute a general income tax for the direct taxes (contributions directes) now levied for national purposes."
At this debate, which will be the third inter-club debate between the Agora and the Forum, the Pasteur Medal, founded by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1898, will be awarded to the best speaker. The trials for the teams will be conducted independently by each of the clubs and will be open only to their members. At the first trials, which will be held on March 28 instead of March 29 as previously announced, six men will be retained by each club, and at the second trials on April 3 the teams will be chosen.
All men, except Freshmen, who are not members of either of the clubs and who wish to try for the debate, may join them by applying to the secretaries.
Books on the question have been reserved in the Gore Hall Reading Room, and candidates for the team will find the books reserved there for Economics 16 also valuable.
