LACROSSE PLAYERS NEEDED

More Candidates Needed for University and 1910 Teams.--Practice Thus Far.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The preliminary practice of the candidates for the University and Freshman lacrosse teams, which commenced last Tuesday, has been held during the week on the dry ground on Soldiers Field to the south of the Stadium.

In response to the call for candidates early in the week, 27 men reported, and they have thus far been practicing the rudiments of stick work and of carrying the ball. No line-ups have been held on account of the soft condition of the ground. As soon as the field becomes hard regular line-ups will be held daily, in preparation for the Southern trip, which will be held as usual during the spring recess. In order to have a successful team, more candidates are needed at once. The number of men who have reported thus far has been far smaller than last spring, and is little more than enough to form two teams. Candidates for the defense positions are especially needed as the team has lost four of the six defense players, and is likely to be weakest in this respect.

Candidates are also needed for the upperclass and Freshman teams, and as the class games this year will be held during the first week in April instead of in June as heretofore, all men who intend to try for their class teams should report at once. Not enough Freshmen have reported as yet to form a single team.
