The practice of the university football squad for the past week has been characterized by steady improvement, both in offensive and defensive work. The men are now playing together better and when the prevailing fault of fumbling is eradicated, the offensive play will be of a high order. The line men are charging low and hard, and in the game with Georgetown on Saturday, they opened up holes in the line, which the backs were quick to take advantage of. The defense has been excellent, and the opposing teams have had difficulty in making headway against it. There is an abundance of material for the end positions, as Brasher, Fryer, Munn, Tooker and O'Brien are all doing first class work. The tackle positions are well filled by Cooney and Herring, and Phillips, whose position is guard, has been doing good work as substitute tackle. P. Waller, a freshman from Lawrenceville, has been playing at guard during Dillon's absence. Tenney, McClintock and Dillon of Exeter are fighting it out for quarterback, and Tenney is at present doing the most satisfactory work. In the backfield are Bard, Daub, McCormick, Simons and Moscrip.

The freshmen football team is rapidly rounding into shape under the coaching of C. S. Holden of last year's university team, and has won two games this week, defeating Peddle Institute 9 to 0, and Brooklyn High School 10 to 0.

The interclass baseball series, which has just been finished, resulted in a victory for the seniors, with a record of three victories. The annual sophomore freshman game resulted in a victory for the freshmen by a score of 3 to 0. The fall tennis tournament for the championship of the university, starts on Monday. McL. Thompson '07, the present champion, will defend the title against the winner of the tournament. The annual fall track meet will be held today, and a number of men have been practicing daily in preparation for it. Thirty-five candidates for the cross country team are running daily under the direction of J. L. Eisele '06. W. M. Armstrong '07 has been elected captain of the track team for the coming year, in place of S. Ruton Miller '07, who did not return to college this year on account of ill health.
