CANADIANS WON HOCKEY

University Team Defeated by McGill, 8 to 2.--Play was Fast and Rough.

The University hockey team lost to McGill University of Montreal by the score of 8 to 2 last Saturday afternoon in the Stadium. Harvard started out well, and scored two goals in the first few minutes of play, but the McGill players by their brilliant skating and skill in following the puck, quickly put the University team on the defensive.

The game was characterized by roughness, which was, however, taken good-naturedly by both sides. McGill was penalized five times, and Harvard four.

Play started with fast and aggressive work by both teams. By clean passing the puck was carried through the McGill team, and Townsend passed to Rumsey, who sent in a hard shot. At this point Harvard's team work and defense were at their best, and soon Rumsey pulled the puck out of a scrimmage and again scored.

McGill took advantage of Townsend's suspension for a minute, to make a concerted attack, which resulted in Patrick's scoring. After long hard play Macallum scored from a scrimmage. Not long after the University team missed a good chance when G. Raphael and Macallum were both suspended. On his return Raphael, by quick stick work, soon scored unassisted. Within a minute Raphael made another goal and Macallum followed with a score from a scrimmage. In the second period the University team made a determined defense and succeeded in holding McGill to 3 more goals.

Willetts hurt his leg in the second half and was replaced by Sampson. Macallum put his knee out of joint and McDougal took his place. Washburn, who played goal throughout the game on account of Carpenter's illness, made several clever stops.

The summary: HARVARD.  MCGILL. Pell, l.e.  r.e., capt., G. Raphael Townsend, capt., l.c.  r.c., H. Raphael Rumsey, r.c.  l.c., Macallum, McDougal Newhall, r.e.  l.e., Rowell Foster, c.p.  c.p., Patrick Willetts, Sampson, p.  p., Harrington Washburn, g.  g., Waugh
