Close Contest With Pell and Gardner for Doubles Championship.

In the finals of the University doubles championship A. S. Dabney '09 and N. W. Niles '09 defeated C. C. Pell '08 and G. P. Gardner '10, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

The first set was very fast. Gardner played a brilliant game, lobbing a great deal and sending many clever drives into the corners. Pell also played in his best form and got in many smashing returns. Niles and Dabney were clearly outplayed in this set and lost 3-6.

After the first set Niles and Dabney played much better tennis. Niles used his underhand, cut serve with great success, especially against Gardner. The last set was extremely last, with many long rallies. Although outplayed in the first set Niles and Dabney were clearly the stronger pair, and after the second set there was little doubt as to the outcome.
