FRESHMEN LOST TO YALE

In an interesting and hard fought game the Freshman eleven was defeated by the Yale freshmen on Saturday, by a score of 16 to 0. The score fairly expresses the relative showings of the two teams, and indicates Yale's superiority in every department of the game. Throughout the game the Harvard players were clearly outclassed, and were unable to make any consistent gains. On the defense the Harvard team was weak and Yale consequently gained through the line and around the ends almost at will, and would probably have made a larger score but for penalties on offside play. In putting both teams were weak, but Yale had a slight advantage.

Yale scored the first touchdown by straight rushing from her own 35-yard line, after only nine minutes of play. The second score was on a field goal by Dunbar. Harvard had received the ball and being unable to score had punted to the centre of the field. Yale had little difficulty in advancing the ball to the 10-yard line and would undoubtedly have scored a second touchdown but for a penalty on offside play. Being unable to make up this distance lost, Yale successfully kicked the field goal.

In the second half the desperate resistance of the Harvard players almost prevented Yale from scoring, although the ball was constantly in Harvard's territory. A costly fumble on the 15-yard line, however, gave Yale the ball close to Harvard's goal line and a touchdown resulted.
