Transit of Planet Mercury Today

The University Observatory has made preparations for a special observation of the transit of the planet Mercury, which will, take place today. Mercury, crosses the base of the sun only about eight times in 100 years, the last transit occurring in 1894. The planet will leave the solar disk at 9.10 A. M. but it will be almost impossible to distinguish its passage without the aid of a field glass. The transits are valuable in determining the planet's course, and the Observatory is as favorably situated as any other in the United States for viewing the one which occurs today.
