First Team Scored Three Touchdowns in 25-Minute Scrimmage.

Yesterday's practice for the University eleven was far more encouraging than Wednesday's, the first team scoring three touchdowns in a 25-minute scrimmage against the second. The second was forced to play a defensive game and their line could not hold the University's tandem through centre with Apollonio carrying the ball. Towards the end of the scrimmage, the second braced and Cooper scored a touchdown after recovering an onside kick.

With the first set of backs in, the second was no match for the University's tandem, and playing very hard and fast football, the latter broke through to the second's secondary defense on every play. The second set did not play together as well and failed to help along the man with the ball for such steady gains. Gilbert played a good individual game and made some 15 and 20-yard end runs. On the second, Osborne was transferred from tackle to halfback and in addition to his excellent onside kicking, was the best ground gainer for his team.

After the kick-off, the second returned the ball to Starr on a punt. Starr was downed on the middle line and after two rushes, netting five yards, an onside kick was recovered on the 25-yard line. From there the ball was rushed ever the line by Apollonio after a series of steady tandem bucks. On the next kick-off after an exchange of punts and a forward pass, the second punted to Wendell who ran back 25 yards to the second's 25-yard line. Apollonio then made the second touchdown after another series of tandem plays. The third touchdown was soon made by Starr, who recovered Burr's kick on the 15-yard line and ran it over the goal. Shortly after the fourth kick-off, Cooper recovered a fumble on the first's 45-yard line. Aided by a forward pass of 15 yards, the seconds got the ball to the 25-yard line. Osborne then kicked over the goal line, and after the resulting punt-out, made an onside kick which Cooper recovered on the 20-yard line and ran over for the second's touchdown. There was no further scoring and time was called with the ball in the second's possession near the middle of the field.

The line-ups were as follows: UNIVERSITY TEAM.  SECOND TEAM. M. C.
