In its first championship game of the season, the University basketball team defeated Cornell in the Gymnasium Saturday afternoon by a score of 30 to 11. Throughout the game the result was never in doubt, as Harvard was the first to score and steadily increased the lead gained in the first few minutes of play.
Little improvement was shown by the forwards of the University team, as their passing was erratic and their shooting inexcusably poor. Amberg, at centre, however, played a brilliant game, scoring seven goals from the floor and passing accurately. Captain Burnham and Brooks played well on the defense, preventing the Cornell forwards from scoring a single goal from the floor during the entire game, and on the offense, dribbling and passing with speed and accuracy. Root, at centre, excelled for Cornell, throwing two of the three goals made from the floor by his team.
Harvard was the first to score, and maintained the lead throughout the period, which ended with a score of 12 to 6 in favor of Harvard. In the second half Cornell weakened perceptibly, while the University team continued to play well together.
