Over sixty Harvard men have already registered for the Northfield Student Conference, which will be held at East Northfield from June 22 to July 1. On the basis of this advance registration, East Hall, the largest and best equipped dormitory at Northfield has been assigned to the Harvard delegation. As the hall has quarters for over one hundred men, and some men will live in tents, there is still room in the Harvard delegation, for many more men; and the committee wishes to have the hall filled entirely with Harvard men. (The total attendance at the conference will probably be about one thousand men, including large delegations from Princeton, Cornell, Yale, University of Pennsylvania and McGill, and smaller delegations from the other eastern colleges).
It has been announced that the annual patriotic celebration usually held on July 4 will come this year on June 27, and that the orator will be Mr. Gifford Pinchot, head of the United States Forestry Department at Washington. Mr. Pinchot, who is a prominent graduate of Yale and a close friend of President Roosevelt, spoke in Cambridge before the Political Club two years ago. In addition, to the other speakers already announced, Mr. H. Roswell Bates of the Spring Street Settlement, New York, will conduct a daily conference on modern city problems. Mr. Bates has organized one of the most successful neighborhood houses in New York, and has given talks on his experiences, at Yale and other colleges.
Dr. Endicott Pearbody of Groton will give the address on teaching as a profession; the speaker on medicine has not yet been announced.
The annual track meet will be held on the afternoon of June 27. The baseball series, and golf and tennis tournaments will continue throughout the conference.
Men who want to attend the conference and have not already registered should leave their names at Phillips Brooks House at once, or give them to some member of the committee. The round trip fare from Boston is $3.65. Registration fee for the full time is $5; for part time, 60 cents per day; board for full time is $8.50; for part time, $1 per day; room in hall for full time, is $3; in tent, $1 to $2.50; part time at proportionate rates. A number of men are going to Northfield for the three remaining days after the New London races; for these men the total expense besides car fare will be $6.30.
