CREWS LEAVE FOR RED TOP

The University and Freshman crews will leave Cambridge for New London this afternoon at 2.20 o'clock. The men will take the 3 o'clock train from Boston, which is due at New London at 5.40. T. Hall, Jr., '93 and H. S. Thompson '99 will accompany the crews, as examination proctors, and T. S. Manahan M.'94 as medical examiner. Coach Wray and Managers Emerson, Whitney, Howes, and Perry will also go today.

As shown by the recent work, the University eight is at a more advanced stage of development than the crew was last year when it went to Red Top. Despite the recent change of Tappan from 3 to bow, and the selection of Morgan for number 3, the crew rowed in good form on Saturday in a short paddle up stream. The five stern men, who have not been changed since March 20, were well together, but a break in the rhythm of the stroke was noticeable at 3. Considering the fact, however, that Morgan, until last Wednesday, had not rowed on the starboard side of a crew for almost two years he showed very creditable form on Saturday. Tappan at bow rowed as smoothly as if he had been there all season.

The order of the Freshman crew was changed on Saturday. Faulkner was moved from 5 to 7, Rackemann from 7 first to bow and later to 3, and Severance from 3 to 5. Also, Kennard was tried at number 3 part of the time. A slow stroke was maintained. The boat spaced well, and kept on a fairly even keel in the row of about 1 1-2 miles up steam.

University crew--Stroke, Filley; 7, Newhall; 6, Bacon; 5, Richardson; 4 Class; 3, Morgan; 2, Fish; bow, Tappan; cox., Blagden.

University four-oar--Stroke, Ball; 3, Lmmons; 2, Richards; bow, Gill; cox., Arnold.

Freshman crew--Stroke, Reece; 7, Faulkner; 6, Lunt; 5, Severance; 4, Mulligan; 3 Kennard, Rackemann; 2, Crandall; bow, Rackemann; Ellis; cox., Wise.

Freshman four-oar--Stroke, Kemp; 3, Hanfstaengl; 2, E. Cutler; bow, Wood; cox., Galatti.

C. E. Tilton '08 and either A. B. Mason '08 or S. B. Swaim '07 will be the two substitutes who will accompany the University crew squad today. The men who rowed on the Freshman four-oar and those who rowed in he final order of the Freshman eight will be accompanied by G. Butler as substitute. J. Cutler, the regular Freshman stroke, will meet the squad at New London.
