1909 BASEBALL WITH YALE

At New Haven at 1.30.--Hartford to Pitch.--Chances Favor Harvard.

The Freshman baseball nine will play its first game with the Yale Freshmen this afternoon at 1.30 o'clock on the university diamond, Yale Field.

The work of the team during the last week has improved more rapidly than at any time this season. In batting the men seem to have more confidence than formerly, and in recent games have shown more ability to hit the ball and to place their hits. The infielding, too, is encouraging, as the men are steadier and handle ground balls with greater accuracy than hitherto. The outfielders are slow in starting and consequently do not cover enough ground.

As Hartford will pitch the chances for victory will lie with the Harvard Freshmen. Hartford has had until lately the experience of facing batters on university teams, and this should prove of value. He has speed and good curves.

The Brown Freshman nine is the only team that has played both the Harvard and Yale freshmen, being beaten 0 to 2 and 3 to 10 respectively. Each team has won two-thirds of its games, the Harvard Freshmen having won eight and the Yale freshmen six. The game should be very close.

The batting orders: HARVARD 1909.  YALE 1909. Rogers, 2b.  r.f., Lippits Briggs, s.s.  2b., Clifford Paine, 3b.  l.f.,  Mallory Harding, 1b.  3b., Peck Palmer, c.f.  c., Sweeney Cutting, r.f.  s.s., Cushman Dana, l.f.  c.f., Schafley Moss, c.  1b., Jefferson Hartford, p.  p., Dunbar
