In the first round of matches in the University golf tournament, which was played on the links of the Brookline Country Club yesterday afternoon, H. H. Wilder '09 defeated A. L. White '06, 4 up and 3 to play; P. Grant, 2nd, '08 defeated T. M. Claflin '07, by default; W. Hickox '08 defeated J. E. Searle '08, 2 up and 1 to play; I. S. Broun '08 defeated H. Sibley '07, 2 up and 1 to play.

On account of the game with the Fall River Golf Club this afternoon, there will be no play in the tournament today. Tomorrow afternoon, H. H. Wilder '09 will play P. Grant, 2nd, '08, and W. Hickox '08 will play I. S. Broun '08 in the semi-final round for the University championship.
