The University second crew defeated the Sophomores yesterday by three-quarters of a length in a very close race down stream, approximately from the Long-wood bridge to the Union Boat Club. The time, 9 minutes and 5 seconds, was 10 and 1-2 seconds better than the record over the regular 1 and 7-8 miles course, but cannot be counted as a new record, because the beats started about 60 yards below the line and diverged from the course so as to be materially assisted by a strong tide.
