Spanish Play April 26

The Sociedad Espanola will present as their annual play, "Los Tres Ramilletes," a comedy of the modern Spanish type, by Breton de las Herreros. The only performance given will be in Brattle Hall on April 26.

The amusing circumstances of the play are well set off by a background of modern Madrid. Don Narciso, wishing to make his friend, Don Ramon, believe that he is very attractive to the ladies, invites him to breakfast. Narciso arranges with Juana, a flower girl, to bring in three bouquets, one of roses, one of violets and one of hyacinths. They are supposed to be sent by Rosa, Violante and Jacinta.

When the second bouquet is sent in, Ramon begins to be suspicious. The third bouquet is brought in while Narciso is out interviewing the landlord, and Ramon seizes the opportunity to send notes by Juana to three of his friends in the neighborhood.

They come in one by one, pretending to be the husbands of the three women who have sent the flowers. The first, El Capitan, challenges Narciso to a duel. Rather than admit that he has been falsifying, he accepts. El Boticario, the second, challenges him to a duel with two pills, one poison and the other harmless. Narciso immediately drives him out of the room. The third, El Quidam, proposes that, as his wife is in love with Narciso, he may as well support her and he pretends that he has forgotten his own and his wife's names. At a signal from Ramon, Juana returns with the bouquet of hyacinths, and El Quidam then remembers his wife's name. Don Narciso immediately sees that the tables have been turned and that he is the one who has been fooled.
