INTERCOLLEGIATE FENCING

The intercollegiate fencing tournament will begin tonight in New York at the New York Athletic Club and will continue tomorrow afternoon and evening. The following colleges will be represented: Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, West Point, Annapolis and the University of Pennsylvania. The teams will consist of three men, each of who will fence eighteen bouts, meeting all the other contestants except those of his own college. The winning team will be entitled to hold the intercollegiate trophy for one year, and the man making the best individual score will be warded a gold medal.

Of twelve past tournaments Harvard has won seven. This year the University team has been defeated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Columbia was tied with Columbia for second place. West Point has won the last three intercollegiate tournaments and this year holds the best record of any of the colleges represented, having defeated Cornell, 6 to 3, and Columbia, 5 to 4.

The Harvard team consists of the following men: W. MacLeod '05, captain, A. Tyng '05, and R. S. Earie 3L. The team left for New York last night by the Fall River boat.
