BASKETBALL WITH YALE

In Gymnasium at 8.--Harvard and Yale Tied in Intercollegiate Series.

The University basketball team will play Yale in the Hemenway Gymnasium this evening at 8 o'clock. As both Harvard at Yale have exceptionally strong teams this year the outcome of the game is doubtful. So far the University team has won all of the nine games played, having defeated the University of Pennsylvania, 30 to 20, Dartmouth, 26 to 19, Amherst, 47 to 7, and Brown, 27 to 10, Yale won nine out of fifteen games on the southern trip, and in the intercollegiate series has defeated Princeton 17 to 13, the university of Pennsylvania 31 to 14 and 26 to 21, and is tied with Columbia for first place.

Since the beginning of the season the progress of the University team has been retarded by the individual playing of the forwards but during the past month the team work has been decidedly improved. The passing, however, is still erratic and the men are inclined to fumble the ball at critical moments. Against a team which relies on passing and team work, as does Yale, this tendency to ragged play is a severe handicap. Lately the development of team play has been slow on account of injuries to Snyder, Griffith and Murray, who have been unable to play for the last two weeks. These men, however, will be in the line-up tonight.

The following is an individual criticism of he team:"

Henderson, captain and left forward, plays a fast game. He is accurate in shooting goals but in blocking is handicapped by lack of weight. This is his third year on the team.

Murray who plays right forward shoots accurately but does not cover his opponent closely enough on the defense. He has not been able to play for the last two weeks on account of injuries and so will start the game in comparatively poor condition. Snyder at centre, plays an aggressive game and follows the ball well but is better on the offense than on the defense.

Burnyham, left guard, is inclined to cover his man too closely instead of watching the ball. Griffiths, right guard, is strong on the both offense and defense but has a tendency to foul when dribbling the ball.

The Yale team is made up almost entirely of experienced men. Hyatt, centre, has played on the team for three years, and Barber, left forward, and Carter, right guard, were both on last year's team. Kinney, right forward, played on Andover last year, and Freshman team. The teamwork and passing are the best features of Yale's play.

Tickets for the game are on sale at Leavitt & Peirce's and at Brine's. Reserved seats are 75 cents and admission to the floor is 50 cents.

The Freshman basketball team will play the Brown freshmen immediately before the University game.

The University game line-up will be: HARVARD.  YALE. Henderson, l.f.  r.f., Kinney Murray, r.f.  l.f., Barber Snyder, c.  c., Hyatt Burnham, l.g.  r.g., Carter Griffiths, r.g.  l.g., Church
