At the last meeting of the Corporation Mr. A. L. Rotch h.'91 was appointed professor of Meteorology. Professor Rotch established, in 1885, and has since maintained the Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory. In 1888 he was appointed assistant in Meteorology in the University, and has now been appointed a full professor in recognition of his services to the University. This appointment of the Coroporation was approved by the Board of Overseers.
Professor Rotch has done much for the advancement of science, both in this country and abroad. He was a member of the International Jury of Awards at the Paris Exposition and was afterwards made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. In 1902 the German Emperor conferred upon him the Royal Order of the Crown. Professor Rotch is also a member of various scientific societies both here and abroad, and has taken part in numerous scientific expeditions.
