Work on New Law School Building

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Recent unfavorable weather conditions have materially retarded the work on Langdell Hall, the new Law School Building on Holmes Field, which was begun last spring. However, comparatively little masonry work remains to be done. The walls are up and ready for the cornices. On top of the Ionic columns along the eastern facade the caps are being placed. With the exception of the roof-girders, the steel work is fairly well along. Work on the underground corridor between Austin Hall and the new building has progressed rapidly and it is now practically finished.

As previously announced, the building is being constructed of buff Bedford limestone and is classic in design. In the central part will be the library, lighted by numerous windows placed between the columns, with the reading and lecture rooms adjacent on either side. The interior will be fireproof throughout and will be finished in quartered oak. As in the old building, the lecture rooms will be in the form of amphitheatres, with curved rows of seats rising in tiers from the lecturer's desk.

The contract calls for a completed building by July 1, 1907, after which Austin Hall will serve as a general lecture room.
