The Freshman football candidates were given a long practice yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field. All the men were divided into squads and practiced kicking, passing and falling on the ball. Afterwards several elevens were formed and run through light signal practice, while most of the linemen were directed in breaking through. No scrimmages will be tried for a few days, in order that the men may become well grounded in the rudimentary points of the game.
Coach Derby was assisted by the following, each in charge of a squad: F. R. Boyd 2L., D. B. Somes '08, and J. W. Cutler '09.
