8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
About 225 track candidates have been working on Soldiers Field this fall under direction of Mr. Lathrop and Mr. Quinn in preparation for the fall handicap games on Monday, October 29.
As usual the sprint squad is the largest. The men have been practicing starts and most of them have had 100-yard time trials. The other track squads are not so far advanced. The weekly contests in the field events have proved very successful, not only through the interest aroused by the element of competition, but also on account of the opportunity afforded the coaches of watching the men in actual contest. At the end of the season prizes will be given to the men winning the most points in each of the events. First place counts 5 points, second, 3, and third, 1. At present H. E. Kersburg '07 leads in the hammer throw with 10 points; B. T. Stephenson '08 leads in the shot-put with 6 points; E. L. Parker '10 leads with 5 points in the pole-vault; R. G. Harwood '09 leads with 8 points in the high-jump; E. T. Allen '09 and C. C. Little '10 each have 5 points in the broad-jump.
The Freshman material this year is exceptionally good and particularly well balanced. There are a number of sprinters and field event men who have already shown their ability this fall and there are several distance runners with good records. The entries for the Freshman scratch meet, which will take place on Monday at 4 o'clock in the Stadium, closed last night with 96 names.
