The University second football team defeated Phillips Exeter Saturday afternoon at Exeter by the score of 4 to 0. This is the first time in five years that the second eleven has won from Exeter.
The second team played a fast game, and showed ability in handling punts. During the last half the ball was kept constantly in Exeter's territory by fast and aggressive playing. The feature of the contest was Gilder's difficult goal from the field late in the second half. For this goal he tried three times during the game, and once the ball missed the goal by glancing off the goal post. Exeter played a ragged game, fumbling at the most critical times, and being continually penalized for offside playing, holding, and once for tripping. The penalty for this latter offense gave the second team the ball and the chance for the goal. The forward pass was worked successfully by Exeter in the first half. No substitutes were used on the second team. Score Harvard Second. 9. Exeter. 0. Goal from field Gilder. Umpire R. O. Stevenson. Referee N. S. McKendrick. Linesmen Roffman and Scott. Timers Cote and Woodhull. Time 15 minute halves.
