The University hockey team will leave for New York this afternoon on the 1 o'clock train and will play Columbia at the St. Nicholas Rink tomorrow evening at 8.15 o'clock. This will be the first intercollegiate game this season for the University team. The following nine men will be taken: D. Newhall, Edgell, Fraser-Campbell, Ivy, Macleod, M. Newhall, Pell, Town send, Willetts. The team will leave for Cambridge in return on the mid-night train tomorrow.
On the Stadium rink yesterday afternoon, the University hockey team defeated the second team by the score of 8 to 2, in a remarkably aggressive game of two 10-minute periods. The work of the first team was in decided contrast to the poor play of Wednesday, the men playing a fast and consistent game. The forwards showed great improvement in team play and the frequent scoring was the direct result of clever passing, which was evident for the first time yesterday afternoon. With the exception of Ivy, who did not play his usual strong game, the defense was very effective. D. Newhall at cover point showed great ability in body-checking and carrying the puck, but his lifting continues to be weak. For the second team the best work was done by Fraser-Campbell and Francis.
The line-up: Goals--Lovering, Mackay, Macleod 2, D. Newhall, M. Newhall, Pell, Townsend 3.
