Both the old and new football rules committees will meet this evening in New York, and it is expected that the question of amalgamation or reorganization will shortly be decided and the way made clear for the actual consideration of proposed changes in the playing rules. The old committee will meet at 7 o'clock at the New Netherlands hotel, and the committee appointed by the recently-formed National Intercollegiate Football Conference will meet simultaneously at the Murray Hill hotel.
According to the decision of the Athletic Committee at its last meeting on Wednesday evening, Harvard has with-drawn its representative from the old Rules Committee. W. T. Reid, Jr., the Harvard member of this committee, will therefore not attend the meeting tonight. He has gone to New York, however, and will probably arrange for Harvard's representation in the Intercollegiate Conference Committee, of which none of the larger eastern universities are as yet members.
It was not deemed necessary at this time for the Athletic Committee to pass upon the recommendations of the Harvard Graduates' Rule Committee. These recommendations will, however, form the basis of Mr. Reid's proposals to the National Committee, after it is finally established, and when that body has definitely formulated rules to govern football during 1906, the Athletic Committee will then deliberate whether or not Harvard should play under those rules, first submitting its conclusions to the Corporation and Overseers for their action before the question is finally decided.
