SCRIMMAGE DISCOURAGING

Second Eleven Made Only Score--Work of Linemen Crude.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The football practice yesterday was very discouraging. The work of both elevens was very crude, the linemen playing much too high and failing to work together.

Four new men reported, one of whom was R. B. Guild '06, who played on his Freshman team, and on the second eleven last year Brill, who received a slight injury Monday, was out in the afternoon. A large part of the squad was excused from morning practice, which was very light and lasted only about an hour. There will be no more morning practice.

In the afternoon the first and second teams after a short preliminary signal practice lined up for the first scrimmage of the season, which was very disappointing. In a ten-minute period the second eleven scored on the first, while its own goal line was at no time in danger. The second team kicked off and the first eleven, after taking the ball through the line for short gains and being set back five yards for offside play, fumbled, the ball going to the second team on the first team's 35-yard line. Not being able to gain, Lockwood punted to Foster. Hanley made a short gain, but as Wendell was unable to gain around left end, Foster punted, the ball going outside on the 40-yard line. The second eleven were given 5 yards for offside play and by short gains advanced the ball to the 30-yard line. There Lockwood dropped back to punt, but after fumbling the pass, picked up the ball and made 15 yards around left end. In the next play Lincoln went around right end 15 yards for a touchdown, Cunniff kicking the goal. Brill kicked off to Quigley, and after short gains the second team was penalized 5 yards for a forward pass: Lockwood punted outside and time was called.

The line-up for the scrimmage was: FIRST ELEVEN  SECOND ELEVEN Blair, l. e.  r. e., Hall, Grant Brill, Spear, l. t.  r. t., Fultz Paul, l. g.  r. g., McLeod White, c.  c., Cunniff Peirce, r. g.  l. g., Brown Squires, r. t.  l. t., Montgomery O'Brien, r. e.  l. e., Blagden, Leary Starr, q.  q., Quigley Wendell, r. h.  l. h., Lincoln Foster, l. h.  r. h., Nesmith Hanley, f. b.  f. b., Lockwood
