During the last three weeks the class crews have been getting into final shape for the race next Friday. It is difficult to make any comparison as to the relative speed of the different crews as none of them have rowed together. The Senior crew, which during the early part of the season developed rapidly, has lately shown a tendency to shorten the stroke at the finish. On Thursday Johnson, who has been rowing at 3, changed places with Joralemon at 7.
During the early season the Juniors were retarded by frequent shifts. Recently, however, they have developed a vigorous stroke, and now row well together at the catch and finish. Their best time over the mile and seven-eighths course, between Longwood Bridge and the Union Boat Club, has been 9m. 29s.
The Sophomore crew is still rather ragged. Their reach is short, and they have been unable to develop a fast stroke. Their stroke is spirited, however, and they have a strong drive at the catch.
The general form of the Freshman crew compares favorably with that of the upperclass crews. Recently, however, it has been rather lifeless, and, owing to ragged time, has shown a tendency to rough blade-work. Yesterday Warren, who has been at 7 on the second eight, was moved to 5 on the first boat.
The order of the crews is as follows:
Seniors--Stroke, Richmond; 7, Johnson; 6, Webster; 5, Lewis; 4, Lamson; 3, Joralemon; 2, Ober; bow, Swaim; cox., Scully.
Juniors--Stroke, Soule; 7, Switzer; 6, Amory; 5, Cabot; 4, Newhall; 3, White; 2, Shurtleff; bow, Williams; cox., Risley.
Sophomores--Stroke, Gregg; 7, Richards; 6, Swaim; 5, Irving; 4, French; 3, Wiswall; 2, Sortwell; bow, Lane; cox., Ogilby.
Freshmen--Stroke, Onativia; 7, Amberg; 6, Fish; 5, Warren; 4, Richardson; 3, Comstock; 2, Despard; bow, Wiggins; cox., Arnold
