In an exciting race upstream over the mile and seven eighths course late Saturday afternoon, the second University eight defeated the Senior class crew by about three-quarters of a length of open mater in 9 minutes and 55 seconds, which was very good time considering the weather conditions. The Seniors showed the better from, but were possibly affected to some extent by the fact that it was their first hard row, and they were not to fresh as the second University crew, which had been towed by the launch the three and a half miles to the starting point. A gain by the second crew of about half a length at the start was increased to nearly a length during the first mile and in turn cut down to about half a length through a spurt by the Seniors near Harvard Bridge. During the second mile, however, the second University crew gradually increased its lead to a little over a length of open water, which was not reduced until near the end, when the Seniors again spurted.

The orders of the crews were:

University second--Stroke, Pleasant on; 7, Flint; 6, Bacon; 5, Montgomery; 4, McLeod; 3, Lily; 2, Gill; bow, Burchard; cox., Montgomery.

Seniors--Stroke, Richmond; 7, Joralemon; 6, Webster; 5, Lewis; 4, Palmer; 3, Johnson; 2, Lamson; bow, Swaim; cox., Scully.
