Review of University Baseball Work

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Last week the University baseball squad held daily outdoor practice. The work was light and no efforts were made to hurry the development of the team. General fielding practice was held daily, followed by short games in which the same batteries were used for both sides. The game Saturday, of which only five innings were played, was won by team B by a score 7 to 5. The game was manned by unfavorable weather conditions, and the strong wind, which greatly hindered the men, made it impossible to form an estimate of their ability.

During the past week all the pitchers gave been used, but none have shown especially good form. Although only straight balls have been thrown, the pitchers still lack control. The catchers do not support the pitchers and are uncertain in throwing to second base. In fielding the men are gradually improving, but they are still inaccurate, in throwing and have a tendency to hurry the plays. The form of the men in batting has improved. It is difficult to judges their ability in this respect as no curved balls have been pitched. One cut will be made in both the field and battery squads before the southern trip.
