The warm weather during the past week has favored the work of the University rowing squad, which on last Tuesday was able to go out on the river for the first time this year. Since then three crews have been sent out each day in barges, and, although somewhat hampered by the ice, practice in short stretches has been obtained. For the last two days Coach Wray has followed the crews on the river. As yet no definite graded crews have been made, but it is hoped that if the weather continues warm it will be possible to use the shells next week.
The Freshmen have continued work in the tank, and the men under the individual instruction of Wray are beginning to show improvement. Work on the river will not begin until next week.
Two provisional eights have been formed from the Freshman squad, which at present numbers 76 men. The eights will report today as follows; at 4--Ball, Cunningham, Glass, Richardson, Howe, Whitney, Fish, Wiggins; at 5--Edwards, Hall, Amberg, Homans, Mason, Boyer, Miller, Lowell.
