All members of the University, Whether or not members of the Union, will be admitted to the lecture to be given in the Living Room of the Union, Thursday evening by the Hon. Ponamalam Ramanathan, K.C., C.M.G., Solicitor-General of Ceylon, on "The Spirit of The East and the Spirit of The West." The lecturer will compare the fundamental ideas of the Orient with those of the Occident.
Mr. Ramanathan is a native of Ceylon, and received his education in Ceylon and Madras. He became Advocate of the Supreme Court of Ceylon and a member of the Legislative Council there. In 1886 he was called, by reason of his high reputation, to the English bar, and acted three times as Attorney-General of Ceylon, where his distinguished public services gained him a decoration.
Pre-eminently a representative of the highest and most sacred ideas of the civilization of India, Mr. Ramanathan stands for the unity of faith. As a "Brahma-Jnani," or knower of God, he is master of the science of spiritual wisdom which deals with the principles underlying both the visible and invisible worlds.
