The departure of the team for Marble head yesterday afternoon was the occasion of a remarkable outburst of enthusiasm, which lasted until the special car bearing the men to the North Station had disappeared from sight. A large crowd assembled in front of the Union at 1 o'clock and while the members of the team were at lunch cheers were given for Captain Hurley, for the coaches, and for the members of the team individually. Then everyone marched to the Square, one column going down Massachusetts avenue and the other one down Mr. Auburn street, each one growing steadily as it marched along. At the Square the columns came together and while the car waited, Stephenson again led cheers for all the players and coaches.
The team took the 2.15 train for Marblehead, where it is located at the Cliff Club and three cottages connected with it. Signal practice was held on the lawn behind the club house. The men ran through the plays with more speed, life and spirit than has been seen this season.
Knowlton has been chosen to act as captain, and Wendell will play in Captain Hurley's regular position. The eleven lined up for signals in the following order--just as they will meet Yale tomorrow: l.e., Leary; l.t., Brill; l.g., Burr; c., Barker; r.g., Kersburg; r.t., Squires; r.e., Knowlton; q.b., Starr; l.h.b., Foster; r.h.b., Wendell; f.b., Carr.
The substitutes also did some splendid work on signals, lining up as follows: l.e., Pruyn; l.t., Montgomery, l.g., Peirce; c., White; r.g., McFadon; r.t., Fultz; r.e., Macdonald, Snyder; q.b., Newhall; l.h.b., Leonard; r.h.b., Lincoln; f.b., Harrison.
