The candidates for the cross country team will begin practice this afternoon at 4.15 o'clock at the track. The runs will come three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and at first will be short. Early in November trials will be held to select the team to represent the University in the intercollegiate meet, which will take place about Thanksgiving time over the course at Travers Island, New York. In preparation for this meet a cross country run with M. I. T. will be held about two weeks before.
The importance of this work cannot be too strongly emphasized. It will develop speed and endurance which at this time of the year can be acquired in no other way. Many men who are not taking any other form of exercise would do well to come out and take part in these runs. Even if they do not make the team this fall their chances for the spring will be greatly improved. No man need feel that the work will be too hard, as a fast and slow squad will be formed when the runs become longer. At first they will be not more than two or three miles and will be slow enough for all new men.
