Jiu-Jitsu Exhibition in the Union

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

H. Koizumi, Z. Horkiri 1G. and I. Nakamura 1G. gave a very interesting exhibition of jiu-jitsu in the Living Room of the Union last evening.

H. B. Webster 1M. presided, and explained briefly the nature of the sport. Formerly there were many schools of jiu-jitsu, but about twenty years ago the president of the Tokio normal school consolidated the best systems and developed the present art. Mr. Webster then introduced Mr. Koizumi, Mr. Nakamura, and Mr. Horikiri, who illustrated the different forms of fighting, throwing, falling, and combinations of all the forms. The exhibition was concluded with a short wrestling bout between Mr. Nakamura and G. F. Evans 1G.

Mr. Nakamura and Mr. Horkiri will give lessons in jiu-jitsu this winter. A meeting will be held later in the year, at which all those who wish to take lessons may make arrangements for them.
