President Eliot has recently been elected a corresponding member of the section morale, in the Academic dos Sciences Morales et Politiques of the Institute de France. This position was formerly held by the Hon. James Bryce, M.P., who has been made associeetranger in the same Academic.

The Institut de France was organized in 1795 and contains five departments, the oldest and best known of which is the Academic Francaise. The Academic in which President Eliot is a member was organized in 1832. It has for its purpose the discussion of philosophy, law, political economy, history, politics and finance. There are 40 regular members, 6 associes etrangers and 48 corresponding members.
