RED TOP, June 5.--The University and Freshman crew squads arrived here late yesterday afternoon, and with the exception of the second crew and the Freshman four-oar, went out at once for practice. The University crew rowed over the four-mile course at a low stroke in about 24 minutes. For the first two miles the Freshmen paced the University boat, and rowing a slightly higher stroke, finished a length ahead. Rough water and a head wind account for the slow time. The four-oar rowed only short, easy stretches.
No work was given the men today and in the afternoon the members of the first crew were taken to Norwich in the "John Harvard."
Following were the orders of the eights yesterday:
University--Stroke, FiNey; 7, Duffy; 6, Shuebruk; 5, Lawson; 4, Ober; 3, Flint; 2. Smith; bow, Dillingham; cox., Chase.
Freshman--Stroke, Farley; 7, Corbett; 6. Goodale; 5, Richards; 4, Bacon; 3, Tappan; 2, Hopewell; bow, Lilly; cox., Wiener.
