RED TOP, June 16.--The work of the University crew yesterday consisted of a three-mile row up stream with the second crew, in which the latter was left far behind and finally stopped. Contrary to usual custom, the crews laid their course directly by the Yale quarters, just as the Yale crews were going out, no attempt being made at concealment. On the way back, the second crew was overtaken, and a lively brush ensued in which the first crew won by a length. Throughout the work, the University crew showed great improvement.
Bowditch, who has been ill with measles, returned to the quarters today in good condition.
