The University lacrosse team defeated Toronto University in the Stadium yesterday by the score of 3 goals to 2.
Toronto showed remarkable skill in dodging and catching, but was less accurate in passing. The team used the Canadian style of play, the players advancing the ball in pairs, and passing when necessary from one side of the field to the other. This placed Toronto at a disadvantage when shooting, as the Harvard defence effectively covered its goal, blocking nearly every attempt to score.
Harvard's centre field was very successful in bringing the ball down toward goal, but the attack lost many chances to score through frequent errors and too little shooting. Hays at goal was very effective and stopped several difficult shots. On the attack, Bennett, Outerbridge and Adams were fast and aggressive. The team-play of the defence was uniformly good.
Toronto on Monday defeated the Crescent Athletic Club at Bay Ridge by a score of 10 to 3. The team will leave on the Fall River boat tonight to play Swarthmore tomorrow and the University of Pennsylvania Friday.
The line-up yesterday was as follows: Score--Harvard, 3: Toronto, 2. Goals--Blaxter 3. Dowling, Swain. Referee--D. P. Penhallow 2M. Time--25-minute halves.
