YALE WON TRACK GAMES

In the intercollegiate track games at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Saturday, Yale finished first with a total of 34 1-3 points, Harvard second with 25 1-3 points and Pennsylvania third with 24 points. Two intercollegiate records were broken, and a third equalled. Taylor of Pennsylvania won the 440-yard dash in 49 1-5 s., breaking the former record by 1-5 s. In the pole-vault Gring of Harvard, McLanahan of Yale and Gardiner of Syracuse tied for first place with a vault of 11 ft. 7 1-4 in. This breaks the previous record by 1-4 in. In the jump off for the medals McLanahan cleared 11 ft. 9 in., which will not be considered as a record as the vault was made after the finish of the event. In the half-mile, Parsons of Yale equalled the intercollegiate record of 1 m. 56 4-5 s.

Of the 143 points, Yale won 34 1-3, Harvard 25 1-3, Pennsylvania 24, Princeton 15, Cornell 15, Syracuse 10 1-3, Colgate 6, Columbia 5, Amherst 4, New York University 2 and Haverford 2. Eleven colleges won points as against nine last year.

The meet was hard fought and interesting throughout. Harvard was a few points in the lead during most of the afternoon but was unable to maintain this advantage owing to the inability to take second and third places. The weather conditions were favorable, the day being bright and fairly warm with a very light wind. The track was in good condition.

Schick won both the 100 and the 220-yard dashes easily. Duffy of Georgetown, although he competed in the preliminary heats on Friday, did not run Saturday. In the quarter-mile Dives ran a strong race finishing just behind Long of Yale, who came in second about two yards behind Taylor. In the half-mile race Young ought to have had fourth place but slowed up just before the finish and Orton of Pennsylvania passed him. In the 120-yard hurdles Bird finished close to Clapp after an exciting race. Bauer won his heat in the semifinals of the 220-yard hurdles but could only get fourth in the final heat.
