The Engineering Department has received as a gift from the Automatic Electric Company of Chicago, a switchboard and set of six automatic telephones of the Strowgia pattern. This system is already in use in a number of cities, and effectually does away with manual connection at a central office. The telephones will be installed as soon as possible in Pierce Hall, connecting the offices of Professor Kennelly, Professor Adams, and Mr. Whiting, the engine and dynamo rooms, and the hall on the second floor. Since the gift was made primarily for exhibition purposes, the apparatus will be set up for inspection.
